Peppers Exit

1. I put the cat down, and I watched him sleep,

A couple of pills in butter, then I started to weep.

No vet’s office, no stainless steel

Just your usual spot in the sun, and your favorite meal.

Chorus: How do we know the time

Words slur, they do not rhyme

Your born, you live, you die

Old Pepper, was a friend of mine.

       2. We all know the routine, they come and go

Another one on the doorstep, and he’s movin’ slow

Warm milk by the fire, it’ll do him right

Keep the lamp a’burnin’, he’ll just spend the night. (yeah sure)

Chorus:

        3. New kitten in the garden, and he’s havin’ fun

            We’ll I’ll be doin this again, when I’m sixty-one

We choose our friends so wisely, but they don’t last

They tend to fade so quickly, and become the past.

Chorus: twice
